July 27. Setting off to the Kava-Chelomdja portion of the
Reserve.
We set off in early morning so that we could catch a ferry
across the Yana river. The ferry works with the high tide only, hence the
hurry.
In Talon village we put our boat in the water, and went
upstream to the ranger’s station. The rangers's boat (photo) was accompanying us on the way to the ranger's station.
The rangers welcomed us in the afternoon, treating us with
customary caviar and tea.
While on-route we did observe only one nest on the Tauy
river with a chick. Not the best, but still something. It was not clear if the
only active nest had one or two chicks, so we decided to make a drone flight
later, on the way back.
The water level in the river was subsiding after a flash
flood two weeks ago.
We'll have intermittent internet access over the coming weeks, but will report back when we can.
